Crap Japonez

Koi carp or Japanese carp is a fish belonging to one of the ornamental varieties of common carp. Now prized worldwide, the development of ornamental carp originally emerged in China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. This freshwater fish was obtained from crosses between selected individuals of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) originally living in ponds.

Essentially vegetarian, this carp is not a predator despite its large size. These fish come in various colors: red, white, yellow, black, etc. Some coloured varieties are highly prized by collectors and fetch huge prices, even if they are only two years old. In Southeast Asia, koi are considered a symbol of love and virility.

Koi carp are omnivorous with a herbivorous tendency, therefore of a peaceful and gregarious nature. Grouped in schools, they make round trips together between their resting and eating places.

The koi carp is a quiet and familiar animal, so cohabitation with other fish species is not a problem.

This fish is renowned for its docility. With some patience, koi carp will come to feed from your hand and become easy to touch.

Today there are 14 classes and over 120 varieties and they are constantly growing thanks to the Japanese mastery of koi fish cross-breeding leading to new color patterns.
