The pony (Equus ferus caballus) is a breed of horse characterized by a low body weight and a small size, native to the cold climate and sparsely vegetated regions of England and the Scandinavian Peninsula. A horse with a low body weight and small waist (height at withers generally under 1.48 m), characteristic appearance (short legs, relatively bulky belly), it is used for light work and leisure. There are many breeds of pony, the best known being the English Shetland breed (originating from the eponymous islands) and the Icelandic pony.
